Bruce Nyman, Esq.

Director of Communications

Bruce Nyman is a highly respected communications professional and former elected official with over 25 years experience in government, politics and media relations.

After being admitted to the New York Bar, Nyman spent several years working at the State Capitol in Albany, as Special Counsel to the New York State Assembly Ways & Means Committee.

Comfortable in the political arena, Nyman challenged a long-time incumbent in his district and in an upset election became the youngest member of the Nassau Board of Supervisors, where he served for ten years. Nyman was then elected to the Nassau County Legislature where he was chosen as the first Minority Leader and ranking member of the Rules Committee and the Legislative Financial Oversight Committee.

He was the first to demand a Legislative cap on property taxes, the first to urge the merger of certain Town and County Departments and the first to urge the Independent Budget Review Office to audit all county spending.

As the sponsor of new consumer, environmental and budget laws, he was an advocate for those who could not advocate for themselves. Newsday endorsed his candidacy in every election and called him “savvy…extremely effective…wonderfully creative.” In his last election, Nyman captured more than 75% of the vote.

Mr. Nyman left the legislature in 1999 to serve as City Manager for the City of Long Beach where he coordinated and directed the activities of the City’s 400 employees in 28 departments, supervised the preparation and year-round monitoring of the City’s $55 million budget and developed, implemented and evaluated the City’s policies and operating procedures.

Most recently, Mr. Nyman served as Director of Communications and Public Policy for the County of Nassau. As such, he advised the County Executive and County Officials on a daily basis concerning media and press relations. He was the County’s chief spokesperson with complex responsibility for broadcast, written and web communications and directed all countywide advertising, public relations and promotional campaigns.

Over the years, Nyman has directed numerous electoral campaigns, organized and supervised candidate field operations, managed fund raising programs and organized political events. He was the first elected official in New State to endorse then Governor Bill Clinton and served as a Clinton Delegate to 1992 Democratic National Convention in New York’s Madison Square Garden.

As an attorney with experience in municipal and administrative law, zoning and land use planning, Nyman is also an educator serving as an adjunct faculty member at Molloy College for over 20 years.

An expert in crisis management, Nyman has a unique talent in identifying potential public relations problems, responding quickly, and preventing damaging fallout. He maintains long term relationships with members of the local and national press, and throughout his career, has forged strong positive relationships with elected officials from both major political parties.
