When Donald Trump — introduced as “the person that’s going to save Long Island and save New York” — stepped up to the microphones today before a group of about 200 admiring supporters of his Nassau County Trump on the Ocean project plans, he began with an ironic story. In 2005, he reminded everyone, he was presented with the “Master Builder” award by the Long Island State Parks Department.

Wednesday’s rally held next to site where Trump wants to build was organized by a newly formed advocacy group called Alliance to Revitalize Jones Beach, which was founded by Rafe Lieber, a Plainview resident who worked as a legislative aide to former State Sen. Craig Johnston. The rally featured numerous chants of “We want jobs” and “Let Trump build.”

NYS Education Department Rejects School Devoted to Hispanic Community For Second Time

New York State Education Department rejected the proposed Dignitas Academy Charter School (DACS), formally Phoenix Academy, for the second time. Brad Gerstman, an advocate for Dignitas Academy, was outraged by the decision. “These students are not receiving the personal attention they need and SED continues to deny them help. Who plans on serving these children now?”

Walmart in New York City: Yes or No? A new poll asking precisely that question to 300 small retail shop owners throughout the city found that most answered a resounding “no.” The poll found that the small business community – including 73% of groceries and convenience stores – overwhelmingly rejects the idea of the largest retail business in the world setting shop in New York City.
