In this new role, Gerstman will lend his expertise in children’s issues from his extensive background in advocacy for special needs children, health of children in undeserved communities, and his activities as an advocate for children against abuse and bullying.

David M. Schwartz was named Chair of the Brooklyn Bar Association’s Criminal Court of the City of New York Committee for 2008-2009. Schwartz, who was previously Vice Chair of the committee, is also a board member of the Brooklyn Bar.
Schwartz, who served as an Assistant District Attorney in Kings County from 1993 through 1997, has spent his entire career as a litigator. He has also been actively involved with the political landscape in New York State.

Josephine, a Nassau County parent who requested that her last name not be mentioned, felt her school district wasn’t meeting the needs of her daughter, now 15, who has an autism spectrum disorder and was getting bullied in school. Over a period of a year and a half, Josephine attended half a dozen meetings with the district. After getting nowhere, she hired an attorney, who within four months negotiated a placement for her daughter outside the district in a private, special needs school.
