Challenge: A Large Construction Company had a judgment and debarment filed against them through the New York State Department of Labor. The goal was to lift the unnecessary debarment so the company could continue to bid on NYS projects and resume business in the State of New York.
Solution: Gotham needed to become their leading advocate and effectively deliver their message to the State Agency and change their ruling.
Result: Gotham worked with New York State elected officials who represented the client’s district and the appropriate committee members to determine the reasoning for such treatment. The debarment was lifted and the state agency and government are continuing to work out a settlement.

Challenge: A School had been given a cap on the number of disabled students it could serve through the New York State Education Department. The school was held up in court for 10 years which delayed their desire to expand their services.
Solution: Gotham needed to deliver this issue to the appropriate decision makers in State Education and effectively explain why such a cap was unconscionable for this school.
Result: Within one year of Gotham coming on board, the lawsuit had ended and the school was able to open two additional schools within a year’s time.

Challenge: A not-for-profit wanted to become approved to provide Medicaid Service Coordination and Home and Community Based Services for individuals with different developmental disabilities. OPWDD rejected the request with no explanation why.
Solution: In order for this agency to be heard, they hired Gotham to be on the ground running and getting into the right rooms to question someone above the decision maker. The Commissioner of OPWDD had to be met with and questioned as to why lower level bureaucrats rejected this request.
Result: The agency was able to become approved for MSC and HCBS services in an extremely short period of time and hopes to soon be able to open a residence.

Challenge: A prominent developer with a long stalled proposed development on state land came to Gotham in hopes of jump starting the project. The goal was to raise both public awareness and awareness in the state government of the project and how continued delays were depriving the region of jobs and economic output.
Solution: In order to build momentum, Gotham helped host a rally at the site of the proposed project. Using our ability to bring together like minded groups and individuals to advocate for our clients’ needs, Gotham created a broad coalition of civic leaders, business representatives and citizens.
Result: Thanks to a turnout of over 300 people, our rally paved the way to get the project started.

Challenge: A major employer in the New York metropolitan area was facing increasing pressure to move its operations out of to state to a lower tax environment.
Solution: In order to create a more secure economic environment, Gotham presented the company’s case and predicament to various local agencies in order to raise awareness of their plight and potential relocation.
Result: Gotham worked with the local government to secure property tax abatements that would lower the tax burden and allow the employer to remain competitive and prosperous.

Challenge: A coalition of small businesses heavily regulated by the government came to Gotham to ensure the laws did not become more onerous and potentially fatal to their businesses.
Solution: Gotham proposed a plan to put a face on these small businesses and let the government know its decision do not exist in a vacuum and would undertake a vigorous lobbying effort to prevent the harmful legislation from becoming enacted.
Result: We prevented this cataclysmic measure from being enforced and as a result preserved the livelihood of these small business owners.

Challenge: A small businesses coalition came to Gotham to help reverse years of encroaching government regulations which put their businesses on the brink of extinction.
Solution: These business owners operate in a field that has typically been a target for elected officials when an easily identifiable demon is needed. These businesses, while associated, but not actually a part of the targeted campaign, often got caught in the cross fire. That is why we rebranded their cause as purely a business and employment issue.
Result: Gotham helped shepherd the first piece of legislation through the Senate in over 20 years that is beneficial to this industry and raised the level of awareness of this niche business organization to all the branches of the New York State Government.

Challenge: A client with a long storied history in New York City could have their business future threatened by an unscrupulous competitor.
Solution: Standing up to one of the world’s largest corporations is a monumental undertaking. That is why Gotham has been at the forefront of bridging together the varied interests who share a common goal.
Result: Gotham has created an unparalleled level of cooperation between these various groups, thereby increasing the power of the individual organizations. This has helped raise the profile of our client’s imitative in this cause as well as paved new avenues to continue winning the battle.
